The First Eliminations



Round Two had only moments before finished and now all 20 Squires competing in the Trial of Steel stood before the King's Herald. The hooded scribe who sat beside him whispered a few hushed words to the Herald, who nodded and turned to speak to the Squires, "Meaven of Greensleeves, step forward!"

Meaven of Greensleeves stepped forward from the group of Squires so that he stood in front of all of his comrades, a look of deep concern set onto his young features. Again the Herald's voice called out "Gerald de Brekenfess, step forward!". Gerald de Brekenfess, with a similar look on his face, stepped forward and stood next to Meaven of Greensleeves.

"Although your quests to become Knights have not ended, your part in this Tournament has. Meaven of Greensleeves and Gerald de Brekenfess, you are both hearby eliminated from the Tournament. Return to your lords and continue your training for another day." Upon hearing these heart-shattering words from the Herald, the two Squires felt as if they had been dealt a mortal blow. The Marshalls approached the eliminated Squires and took their shields from them. The shields were then placed on steel hooks imbedded in the preparation building's walls as a record of those who had been removed from the contest.

To the sound of trumpets, the King's Herald and his attendant Scribe left the pavilions, as did the Squires...
