Quarter Finals

Amarduril VS Sir Jaison de Chateau Guest

Sir Morrmond VS Lord Nike

Armand Uberstadt of Talabheim VS Sir Galendir Wettel

Baron Gaston le Byron VS Ordenmarschall Meinard Lothair

It was a glorious day indeed, as the sun shone down from a cloudless sky, illuminating the tilt-yard that stood surrounded by the colourful Heraldry of Lyonesse. A huge crowd of peasants was packed into most of the pavillions, a seething, swarming mass eager for the coming competition.

The Knights in the pavillions ignored this however, as they were talking quitely amongst themselves. Today was to be a very exciting day indeed, as the victors of the upcoming Jousts would qualify for the Semi-Finals, whilst those who were defeated, no matter their placing in the final eight, would be eliminated.

Sir Gindle sat silently, and only moved when the sound of trumpets filled the air, informing him that the Knights were ready to begin. He then arose to his feet, and unrolled another scroll (although this one was noticably smaller). Before reading from it, Sir Gindle spoke to the assembled crowd.

"Today, the final eight Knights shall compete against one another. The prize is closer than ever for those honourable eight Knights, and no doubt they shall fight hard to claim it as their own. I hereby, proudly, announce that the Quarter Finals of the Jousting Tournament of Thierulf's Gauntlet has begun!"

Cheers arose from the crowd in a deafening roar, and continued for a few moments, before dying down once again. At this point, Sir Gindle returned his attention to the scroll in his hands, and read aloud...

"To begin the Quater Finals, let us commence a Joust between two of the most interesting and promising Knights of the Jousting Tournament. Amarduril, the Leaderboard champion and Elf of Ulthuan shall do battle against Sir Jaison de Chateau Guest, who has time and again proven himself in combat. Commence!" To these words, the two chosen Knights rode out into the arena, and were greeted with an endless wave of cheers from the crowd. So began the first Joust of the Quarter Finals...

VS

Amarduril

(No Virtue) - (0-0)

Sir Jaison de
Chateau Guest
(Discipline Virtue) - (0-0)

The signal was given, and the Knights charged towards each other, sending clumps of dirt and grass into the air behind their warhorse's pounding hooves. Surprisingly, both Knights chose the same target - each other's Shields.

Although they struck at the same moment, and a mighty-sounding clash echoed into the air as their lances pounded into their targets (Amarduril hit on a 4, Sir Jaison hit on a 5), neither Bretonnian nor Elf was able to break his lance (Jaison failed on a 1, Amarduril failed on a 2)!

Aiming to put more strength behind their blows, the two Knights came around for the second Pass, and both targeted their opponent's Helmet. Again, Amarduril's lance was accurate (hitting on a 3 due to his Weapon Skill) but once more the attack was not strong enough to break his lance, and the blow merely skimmed off the side of his opponent's Helmet (on a 1)! Sir Jaison's attack, however, lacked neither strength nor accuracy, as he hit (on a 6) and smashed his lance to pieces with a mighty attack (on a 4). The noble Elf was wounded (failed Armour Save on a 4) but he was a master horseman, and was not unhorsed (on a 6).

The third Pass began, and Amarduril knew that this would be his last chance to reclaim victory and gain access to the Semi-Finals. He aimed, therefore, at his foe's Shield, hoping to unhorse him. Sir Jaison chose his opponent's Crest as his own target, if he hit and knocked off the Crest Amarduril would have no hope of victory.

Amarduril struck first, and the reason he was the Leaderboard champion showed through. He hit (on a 4) and reduced his lance to wood splinters (on a 5). Sir Jaison was not ready for the impact, and received a harsh wound from the attack (failed Armour Save on a 1). The valiant Bretonnian was not unhorsed, however (due to his Virtue). The blow did stun the Knight, unfortunately, and his attack went off target, and missed (on a 1).

As both Knights had equal Lance Breaks, a fourth and final Pass would begin. They both chose the Shield as their targets, and would strike at the same time.

A collective gasp errupted from the crowd, as both Knights came together in a clash of wood and steel, both hitting (on a 6 for the Bretonnian and a 4 for the Elf). However, Amarduril's attack was not strong enough, and only caused his lance to bend slightly, but not break (on a 2)! Sir Jaison, on the other hand, hit with devastating force, causing his lance to shatter (on a 5). Amarduril was not harmed (on a Armour Save of 5), but was defeated nonetheless (due to Jaison having one more Lance Break).

Sir Jaison de Chateau Guest had won by having 1 more Lance Break than his Elven opponent. Therefore, Sir Jaison de Chateau Guest gains entry to the Semi-Finals. Amarduril, unfortunately, is eliminated.

The crowd cheered on as the two competitors from the Joust left the arena, their battle completed. Once a few moments had passed, Sir Gindle signalled for a blast of trumpets, which silenced the crowd and allowed him to speak. "Next, in the second Joust of the Quater Finals, Sir Morrmond, Grail Knight of Bretonnia will do battle against Lord Nike!"

VS

Sir Morrmond
(Ideal Virtue) - (0-0)

Lord Nike
(Knightly Temper Virtue) - (0-0)

The battle began, and ended, in a flurry of movement. The signal was given, and the two Bretonnians charged. Sir Morrmond aimed high, targeting his foe's Helmet to increase the strength of the impact. Lord Nike chose a quicker, but less powerful, ploy, he aimed for the Shield of his opponent.

Lord Nike struck first due to aiming for the Shield, and was devastatingly accurate, causing a direct, mighty blow to the centre of his foe's Shield (on a 4). This hit carried enough force to shatter the lance (on a 6) and pierce the Grail Knight's Armour, causing a wound (on a 2)! Indeed, such was the might of the attack that Sir Morrmond was thrown backwards, out of his saddle! Thus, he was unhorsed (on a 1), and did not get a chance to strike!

Lord Nike had been victorious by Unhorsing his opponent. Therefore, Lord Nike gains entry to the Semi-Finals. Unfortunately, the Grail Knight Sir Morrmond is eliminated.

Sir Morrmond was helped from the arena, as the crowd cheered his valour, and the victory of his opponent. Once the victorious Lord Nike had left the arena as well, Sir Gindle arose from his seat, unrolled the parchment, and read aloud, announcing the upcoming match. "Next, the Empire-born Armand Uberstadt of Talabheim shall do battle against Sir Galendir Wettel, may the Lady bless them both!"

VS

Armand Uberstadt of Talabheim
(No Virtue) - (2-2)

Sir Galendir Wettel
(Empathy Virtue) - (0-0)

The signal was given, and the two Knights, one Empire-born and clad in Full Plate, one Bretonnian and armoured in finest Bretonnian Steel, charged at one another. Sir Galendir aimed high for his foe's Helmet, whilst Armand decided to target his foe's Shield. He would strike first.

Armand's aim was perfect, and his lance impacted with his foe's Shield (on a 5). Unfortunately, he had not gathered up enough speed in the charge, and the hit proved not powerful enough to break his lance (on a 1)! Sir Galendir Wettel's attack was just as well aimed, and hit (due to his Virtue) but did so with devastating force, smashing apart his lance (on a 5)! Armand Uberstadt was wounded by the hit (on a 2), but he was strong indeed, and was not unhorsed (on a 6).

The second Pass began with Sir Galendir deciding to continue aiming for his opponent's Helmet. Armand Uberstadt also decided that the Helm was his best target, and re-adjusted his aim to that area. They would strike at the same time!!!

Both Knights hit (on a 4 for Galendir and a 5 for Armand), which caused the onlookers to burst into cheers. Unfortunately, the Empire-born Armand still did not have enough might behind his attack, and the lance did not shatter (on a 2)! Sir Galendir was, once again, successful and reduced his own lance to tiny pieces with his own attack (on a 6), and caused another injury to his honourable foe (on a 3). Armand Uberstadt of Talabheim, despite his wounds, held firm, and was not unhorsed (on a 5)!

As the third Pass began, Armand chose to return his aim to the Shield of his foe, hoping to unhorse him with one final blow in this last Pass. Sir Galendir did the same, wanting to maintain the lead he currently enjoyed. Armand, this time, was more successful, and his lance pummeled into his foe's Shield with such strength that it was snapped in two (hitting on a 6 and breaking on a 4)! Sir Galendir's Armour was not pierced, however (on a 6). Sir Galendir was so stunned by the hit, however, that although his attack hit (on a 6), it did not carry enough strength, and failed to break his lance (on a 2)!

Thus, the third Joust of the Quarter Finals came to an end. Sir Galendir Wettel had claimed victory by having 1 more Lance Break than his foe. Armand Uberstadt of Talabheim is eliminated, whilst Sir Galendir gains entry to the Semi-Finals.

The excited spectators roared with approval as the valiant Knights, both foreign and native, left the tilt-yard. Never before had they seen such a glorious display of skill-at-arms. In the midst of this uproar, Sir Gindle stood and silenced the crowd with a wave of his hand.
"In this, the fourth and final Joust of the Quarter Finals, the honourable Baron Gaston le Byron shall compete against the mighty Ordenmarschall Meinard Lothair! Begin!" Announced Sir Gindle, to which the onlookers burst into cheers. The two Knights then took up their positions in the tilt-yard, and awaited the signal to begin.

VS

Baron Gaston le Byron
(Knightly Temper Virtue) - (6-6)

Ordenmarschall Meinard Lothair
(No Virtue) - (1-1)

The first Pass began, and the two Knights both decided to attempt to end the Joust with one decisive hit. They both aimed for each other's Helmets, and met at the same moment on the tilt-yard.

Meinard Lothair, the Empire Knight was unable to hit, and his lance passed by Gaston harmlessly (on a 2). Baron Gaston, however, was able to hit (on a 3 due to his Virtue) and sent shards of lance flying in all directions, such was the force of the blow (on a 5). Meinard's Full Plate was well crafted, however, and withstood the impact (on a 5 due to being Full Plate), leaving the Ordenmarschall unharmed.

The second Pass began with the Empire-born Knight changing his tactics, and choosing to aim for his foe's Shield instead of his Helmet. Baron Gaston le Byron continued to aim for his foe's Helmet, seeking to unhorse his opponent with a single powerful hit. Striking first, the Empire Knight was this time accurate (on a 4) and smashed his lance apart with the impact (on a 6). Baron Gaston's Armour was of no use against such a powerful attack, and he suffered a wound (on a 1), but was not unhorsed (on a 6). Baron Gaston le Byron's lance was also accurate (on a 5), but the hit he had suffered caused him to lose strength, and he failed to break his lance (on a 2).

In the final Pass, Meinard Lothair aimed his lance high for his foe's Crest, attempting to claim victory with a final, skillful attack. Gaston, hoping to unhorse his foe, aimed for his opponent's Shield. Therefore, the Bretonnian would strike first.

With a resounding *crack*, Baron Gaston's lance impacted heavily with his foe's Sheild (on a 4) and snapped it in half easily (on another 4). Despite his Empire Full Plate, Meinard was wounded by the attack (on a 2), but was not unhorsed (on a 5). Although he had just suffered a wound, Meinard still managed to aim his lance accurately (hitting the Crest on a 5) but failed to knock the Crest off (on a 1).

With that, the final Joust of the Quarter Finals ended. Baron Gaston le Byron had been victorious by having 1 more Lance Break than his opponent, and is therefore allowed entrance into the Semi-Finals. Meinard Lothair is eliminated.

The crowd's applause rained down upon the two Knights as they made their way out of the arena. Sir Gindle allowed them to continue cheering for a few moments, before he arose from his seat and signalled the musicians to let loose a burst of trumpets. This silenced the crowd, and allowed the noble Bretonnian to speak loudly.

"Knights of the lands, approach!"

The eight Knights made their way into the arena, the cheers of the crowd resuming, to bathe them in a tide of praise. When they had lined up before Sir Gindle, the crowd fell silent, eager to hear the Knight's words.

"All eight of you should be most proud, for you are Knights without equal. Before you the forces of Evil tremble, and at your side the forces of Light rally. Be proud, men of Bretonnia, men of the Empire and Elves!"

A short burst of appluase erupted, but quickly quietened.

"However, only four of you may continue to the Semi-Finals. Your names shall be read aloud now, but do not despair if your names are not among them, for there will always be new chances to prove yourselves worthy of the Lady's Blessing, and the favour of the other Gods of Light."

"Sir Jaison de Chateau Guest."

"Lord Nike."

"Sir Galendir Wettel."

"Baron Gaston le Byron."

"You are the four who have qualified for the Semi-Finals of the Jousting Tournament of Thierulf's Gauntlet. Rest well and celebrate your victories, but remember well that only one of you will emerge from this Tournament victorious."

The crowd once more erupted into a hail of cheers, cutting off any further speech Sir Gindle had in mind. Nevertheless, he saluted the eight Knights before him, who saluted back, before turning and leaving the arena. The Knights slowly left the arena, some victorious, others not. They were all proud of their acheivements, however, and none were disappointed.

The day's events were now over, but the Semi-Finals were still to come...
