Aodhan VS Pierre de Gisoreux

Curtis Pythonheart VS Bobby Thundar

Jedjo Armag VS Rupert

Falstaf VS Ryant de Cooke II

Seretuon VS Artois Atrove

The thick mists that had gathered previously had long past, and once more the sun beamed down upon the expansive and towering city that is Parravon. Thousands upon thousands of men, women and children lived in and around the city, and all manner of professions were to be found here. From coopers to cattle farmers, from sages to servants and from bakers to blacksmiths. All of these and more were present within the city. Indeed Parravon was a rich and lavish capital which few other cities of the world could match.

A week had past since Round Three and it was time for the commencement of Round Four. The pavilions were crowded long before the round was set to begin. The sounds of conversation and people moving about in the pavilions dominated the entire arena prior to the King's Herald arrival in the King's personal annex. When the Herald appeared with his attendant Scribe in tow, a blast from a half dozen trumpets silenced the din and allowed the him to speak.

"You may begin the proceedings now Adjudicator." He announced to the King's Adjudicator, who had just taken his seat in the Adjudicator's Box. "Thank you, m'lord." he replied, before unrolling a new scroll of parchment. He examined it for a moment and then read aloud...

"To begin Round Four, Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam shall do battle against Chaliot deFray. Squires, approach and do battle!" With these words from the Adjudicator, the crowd burst into applause and the doors to the preparation building opened once more. Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam and Chaliot deFray then marched out onto the middle of the arena, drew their swords and waited...

With the noise of the crowd filling the arena, the signal was given. Thomas acted first, Chopping quickly at his opponent but finding his blow deflected by the shield of Chaliot, who struck back with an over-head Power Strike and hit. The blow punched through Thomas's guard, but Thomas took the strike well and was not wounded. Thomas pretended to slice back, but it was merely a Feint, and Chaliot fell for it, flinching as if to defend himself from the fake attack.

Taking advantage of Chaliot's momentary lapse in defense due to his successful Feint, Thomas sliced back with a mighty Power Strike, and hit with enough force to cause a wound upon his opponent. Chaliot deFray, not fazed despite the force of the damage he had just suffered, struck back with a Chop. The blow bypassed Thomas's defenses and hit his shoulder with a loud crunch, causing Thomas's arm to weaken and also causing him a wound. A second Chop from Chaliot was not as successful and was parried.

As the cheers from the onlookers continued to rise, Chaliot pressed his attack and stabbed forth at his opponent with a Jab, smashing past the guard Thomas put up and hitting, but failing to cause any physical damage. In an act of Subterfuge, Thomas pretended to take a deflection stance but when Chaliot moved in to attack, struck out with a cutting blow. The blow hit with enough force to slip past his opponent's defenses and cause another palpable wound to Chaliot deFray. Hurt, but still focused on the battle at hand, Chaliot ignored a further Feint from his opponent and Chopped at him. The Chop impacted with his opponent's arm and caused Thomas's sword arm to weaken further (it was already weak from a previous hit).

In a skillful attempt, Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam tried to lock weapons with his opponent in a Clash of Steel. Unfortunately for Thomas, Chaliot was too quick and dodged backwards, escaping his opponent's attempt to lock blades. Chaliot then barreled forward at his opponent with a Shoulder Charge attack and would have smashed his opponent with a mighty blow, but Thomas evaded the strike. Much to the crowd's enjoyment, Thomas Chopped at his opponent as Chaliot charged past and hit, but failed to harm his foe.

Flinching from being tricked by a Feint from Thomas, Chaliot struck out at his opponent with a Chop but found his blade stopped on his foe's shield. With a hit that was loud enough to cause the crowd to roar out with excitement, Thomas struck his opponent with a Chop. The punishing blow threw Chaliot deFray backwards and knocked him out, ending the battle.

The Herald looked very impressed, and the Scribe wrote hurriedly upon his parchment as the Adjudicator declared Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam the victor. Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam had won by Knocking Out his opponent. Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam gains 10 points. Chaliot deFray gains no points.

Chaliot deFray was carried out of the arena and Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam soon returned to the preparation building after a few moments of celebration. When they had both left, and the crowd had settled down once again, the King's Adjudicator unrolled his scroll of parchment once more and read aloud, "Gillrod de Moss shall now do battle with Ulric Von Licktenstein, may he who the Lady has chosen be the victor!".

With that, the doors opened once more and the two chosen Squires approached...

From the beginning it was clear that this battle was going to be a quick and brutal combat as Ulric charged directly at the waiting Gillrod de Moss. Chopping at his foe, Ulric's blow was easily dodged and replied to with a stunningly quick Double Strike from Gillrod. Unfortunately for the Adroit Squire, Ulric parried the Double Strike and struck back with a sweeping Chop, but he, too, found his attack parried. Pushing his opponent's blade aside, Gillrod Jabbed back at his foe but missed. A further Chop and Lunge from Ulric were no more effective than previous attempts, and missed.

Swiftly moving around his opponent, Ulric struck at Gillrod from a new angle with a Jab, but still found his thrust stopped. Gillrod struck back with two Jabs, the first of which hit with enough force to cause Ulric Von Licktenstein a crushing wound and send him staggering backwards. The second Jab was not as accurate, and missed. With an amazingly accurate strike, Ulric Chopped at Gillrod and hit his opponent with the flat of the blade directly across the side of his face. With a deep bruise already appearing where he had been hit, Gillrod was knocked unconsious by the force of the blow (with a roll of 12 on the Damage Table!) and fell backwards, landing with a thud on the sandy arena floor.

With the spectator's applause pouring from the pavilions, Ulric Von Licktenstein was declared the victor of the battle. Ulric Von Licktenstein had won by Knocking Out his foe. Ulric Von Licktenstein receives 10 points. Gillrod de Moss receives no points.

"Next, in the third battle of Round Four, Ryanus Caeruleus Coquus must do battle against Jean de Montbergac." With those words from the Adjudicator, the doors to the preparation building once more swung upon and the two chosen Squires entered the arena. With calls of encouragement being shouted from the pavilions, the Squires readied themselves for battle...

As soon as the signal was given Jean de Montbergac struck. Jabbing at his opponent with such speed that Ryanus could not react fast enough, Jean's blade hit Ryanus squarely in the chest and caused him a disabling wound. Unsurprisingly, the Chop which Ryanus Caeruleus Coquus had begun to swing when he was hit faltered and fell away harmlessly. Although badly wounded, Ryanus still had his wits about him and avoided a mighty Shoulder Charge from his opponent, before taking a Deflection style stance. Seeing a chance to strike, Ryanus struck out with a Double Strike and a Chop, both of which hit. The Double Strike was too weak to cause any harm to Jean but the Chop hit with enough force to weaken his opponent's arm for the rest of the battle.

The two battling Squires separated and regained their composure. Testing each other's defenses, the two Squires circled each other but never took their eyes away from their opponent. Then, abruptly, Jean and Ryanus launched back at each other and the battle began anew...

Allowing Ryanus to act first, Jean took a Deflection stance and awaited Ryanus's actions. Jean then dodged aside as a swift Double Strike from Ryanus barely missed him. As Ryanus was still recovering from performing the Double Strike attack, Jean Jabbed quickly at his opponent's mid-section, but Ryanus had seen it coming and quickly raised his shield and blocked the Jab. With a yell, Ryanus counter-attacked with a sweeping Lunge but was not accurate, and the slicing blow missed and only found the sand-covered floor of the arena. Before Ryanus could retreive his weapon's blade from the sand, Jean Jabbed once more and hit. The attack was too weak to cause any harm, however. Taking a step backwards, Ryanus hefted his blade from the sand and raised it into a Deflection pose, before realising he had a chance to strike at his enemy and lashing out with a whirling Spin-Slash attack. The attack missed, however.

Side-stepping a clumsy Jab from his opponent, Ryanus struck Jean de Montbergac hard with a powerful Slash. The attack hit with such force that Jean was momentarily stunned. Taking advantage of the stun, Ryanus Slashed his opponent once more, hitting again but this time failing to cause any real wounds. Recovering from his stun, Jean sliced out at Ryanus with a double-handed Power Strike, slamming his weapon into the torso of his foe. The blow hit with crushing impact and forced Ryanus Caeruleus Coquus backwards, stunning him badly. Amazingly, Ryanus still managed to swing his weapon in a Chop despite the power of the blow that had been struck upon him and hit! The attack did no harm, however.

As the conflict continued between the two combatants Jean de Montbergac Shoulder Charged at his opponent. Ryanus evaded the blow by jumping aside at the last moment. Taking his chance to attack, Ryanus struck back in a hail of blows, striking with a total of four attacks!!! Much to Ryanus's chagrin, although attacking with two Double Strikes, a Spin-Slash and a Chop, Ryanus only managed to hit with one of the Double Strikes. The blow itself did no harm to its target.

As the 5th Turn began, Jean struck out with an arcing Power Strike, hammering Ryanus backwards and causing a serious wound upon the Reckless Squire. Continuing a seemingly endless tide of attacks, Ryanus struck back with two Spin-Slashes but Jean was too swift and evaded the clumsy swings. Striking once more with a Lunge, Ryanus was again unable to connect with his attack and missed! Finally, frustrated by how difficult it was to hit his foe, Ryanus Chopped at his opponent one last time but found his blow parried!

The battle had ended. All five Turns had been completed and it was now time to declare a victor. Ryanus Caeruleus Coquus had won by having 2 More Hits than his opponent. Ryanus Caeruleus Coquus gains 6 points. Jean de Montbergac gains 4 points.

Unrolling the parchment once more, the King's Adjudicator announced, "For the fourth battle in this round, Aodhan of Greensleeves shall do combat against Pierre de Gisoreux. Squires, approach!"

As the two Squires marched into the arena they were greeted with applause and cheers. When they reached the centre of the arena, they drew their swords and readied their shields, preparing for combat. After a moment, the Herald gave the signal and the battle began...

With the resounding crash of steel, Pierre de Gisoreux and Aodhan of Greensleeves struck each other at exactly the same moment. Pierre Slashed at his opponent and hit him across the left side of his torso, causing a clear wound upon the Adroit Squire in the first seconds of combat. Aodhan of Greensleeves also struck, his attack was a Jab that broke past his foe's guard and thrust straight into his mid-section and hit with so much force that Pierre flinched from the damage and now was obviously wounded. Pierre attempted to hit again, this time with a potent Power Strike, but his swing went wide and harmlessly sailed past his opponent.

Dodging aside from a swift, but inaccurate Jab from Aodhan, Pierre turned to flee from his opponent and draw him into a Subterfuge attack. Unfortunately for Pierre de Gisoreux, Aodhan was not easily fooled and did not give chase, therefore, the attack failed. Pierre, cursing his luck for failing to fool Aodhan, quickly closed the distance between them and struck out with a skillful Chop. Aodhan was too swift however, and parried the Chop. Striking with a mighty counter-attack, Aodhan swung a Power Strike at his opponent. The blow punched through Pierre's guard and impacted upon him with punishing force, causing another serious wound to Pierre de Gisoreux.

Feeling that he needed to end the battle quickly, Pierre attempted to knock his opponent out with a speedy Slash, but Aodhan dodged the somewhat clumsy swipe. Attacking back, Aodhan of Greensleeves attempted to hammer Pierre once more with a Power Strike but his aim was not true and the blow missed. Again failing to hit his foe, Pierre de Gisoreux Chopped at his opponent, but missed.

The crowd were really getting into the emotion of the melee now. All were shouting encouragement to the Squire they favoured as the two combatants dodged and weaved away from each other's attacks, before returning to deliver palpable blows upon their foe. Unfortunately, they both seemed to be unable to strike each other. Both a Power Strike from Pierre de Gisoreux and a quick witted Subterfuge attack from Aodhan of Greensleeves failed to hit.

As the final Turn began, both Squires knew that this was their last chance to claim outright victory with a knockout blow. Aiming to bring his opponent down, Pierre struck out with a heavy-handed Chop, but Aodhan evaded the blow and took a Deflection stance, awaiting his foe's next and final attack. It was a good tactic to do so, because Pierre's attack was a Power Strike that was, much to Aodhan's credit, blocked by the stalwart defenses of the Adroit Squire. Aodhan had one, final stab at his opponent in the form of a Jab, but Pierre was able to block the blow before it could hit.

With a call from the Adjudicator, the combat was over. As both Squires took a much needed rest, the winner of the battle was declared. Due to having 1 More Hit than his foe, Aodhan of Greensleeves had won. Aodhan of Greensleeves gains 6 points whilst Pierre de Gisoreux gains 4 points.

Once more the pavilions emptied as the lunchtime festivities began, and as before entertainers, dancers and musicians all performed for the crowd's enjoyment. The spectators were all in good spirits and many gold coins were tossed to the entertainers as they performed their feats of amazing agility and wonderous ability. In time, however, the festivities had to end.

As before, when the midday hour had passed, the crowd returned to the pavilions to watch the remaining four battles yet to be played out. Once all of the spectators had settled, the Adjudicator, who had just returned to the Adjudicator's Box after eating his midday meal, unrolled the scroll he carried and read aloud, "Now, for the fifth battle of Round Four, Curtis Pythonheart must do battle against Bobby Thundar!"

With that, the Squires exited the preparation building and began the march to the centre of the arena...

Roaring a battle-cry, Bobby Thundar Shoulder Charged at his opponent as soon as the battle began. Unfortunately for the Aggressive Squire, Curtis was too swift and evaded the crushing blow that was swung by Bobby. Chopping back at his opponent twice, Curtis Pythonheart was unusally accurate and hit both times. The second Chop hammered Bobby heavily and caused an obvious wound upon him. Curtis Pythonheart attempted a Spin-Slash and a further Chop, but he was not as accurate this time and both attacks were easily dodged.

Finally getting back into the battle after his failed Shoulder Charge, Bobby Thundar sliced out with a skillful Slash and hit his opponent. Unfortunately for Bobby, Curtis took the blow well and was not wounded, being only pushed back a few paces. Counter-attacking with a Spin-Slash, Curtis's attack was again poorly aimed and missed, and allowed Bobby to get within reach for a Spin-Slash of his own which hit with great force. Only by luck it failed to hurt the Reckless Squire. Still, Curtis was confident in his abilities and despite being hit twice he did not fall back any further and Jabbed out at his opponent, but Bobby was again too quick and avoided the stab! For just a moment Bobby let up his guard to strike a Chop upon his opponent but that was all the time that Curtis needed. Dodging the Chop, he struck back with a whirling Spin-Slash and hit Bobby across the back of his knees! The blow knocked the legs from under the Aggressive Squire and he fell backwards, landing on his back and tossing up a cloud of sand.

The quick but well-fought battle was over. Curtis Pythonheart had been victorious by Knocking Over his opponent. Curtis Pythonheart receives 10 points, Bobby Thundar receives no points.

It took the Marshalls a short space of time to help Bobby Thundar from the arena. He was limping and needed assistance to reach the preparation building. Thankfully, no bones had been broken and the wounds suffered were only flesh deep. No medical attention was needed except time to let the bruises heal.

After the arena was cleared of wounded and celebrating Squires, the Adjudicator read from his scroll once again, "Jedjo Armag, currently holding second place in the Tournament Roster, shall now do battle against the current Roster leader, Rupert, Squire to Baron Borsam. May the Lady bless the victor!"

The battle was set to be a fast paced battle of skills, as the two highest placed Squires were competing, and only one could be the victor...

Rupert quickly closed the distance between himself and his adversary as soon as the signal was given for the combat to commence. Striking out with a Double Strike, Rupert managed to evade the guard of his opponent and deliver a harsh blow upon Jedjo, causing him to take a step backwards from the force of the wound he had suffered. Still, Jedjo refused to give up after being wounded and Lunged at his foe, but the wound had taken its toll on him and he acted too slowly, missing. Rupert then Chopped at Jedjo twice, one of which hit and stunned the Adroit Squire, the other of which was not as accurate and failed to hit.

Coming to his senses just in time, Jedjo Armag lifted his sword and barely parried a Spin-Slash from his opponent. Counter-attacking with deft skill, Jedjo Lunged at his opponent and hammered Rupert's torso with a mighty sweep of his sword, leaving an obvious wound where he had struck. Somewhat shaken after being wounded, the Squire to Baron Borsam managed to keep fighting nonetheless and struck out with a Slash and a Double Strike. The Slash hit but did little more than force Jedjo backwards and the Double Strike was too inaccurate and failed to find its mark.

Jedjo Armag was now beginning to be able to predict the movements of his opponent and evade his blows accordingly. Backing all the way up to the tall wooden fence, Jedjo dodged a Chop from his foe and replied with a Jab. The thrust was ineffective and missed, however. Chopping again, Rupert was unable to pierce the defenses of his adversary and found his attack parried. Jedjo counter attacked with a Jab but Rupert was too swift and dodged under the stab. Striking once more, this time with a Double Strike, Rupert's blade was deflected by his opponent's shield into the fence. The sword put a small split in the fence, but no other damage was caused.

Annoyed by Jedjo Armag's constant parrying and blocking, Rupert attempted another Double Strike but as before, Jedjo was able to turn aside the blow with his adept defensive skills. Suddenly, after tossing the parried blade of his opponent to the side, Jedjo Shoulder Charged into Rupert from nearly point-blank range and hit into him with crushing force. Luckily for Rupert, the blow, whilst powerful, did not hit him directly enough to cause any wounds. Still, Rupert was so dazed by the blow that a further Slash and a Spin-Slash from him were badly off target and Jedjo did not even need to dodge.

Both striking at the same time, the two combatants Chopped at each other and hit. Rupert's Chop did minimal damage and Jedjo did not even flinch because of it. Jedjo's hit, however, was more successful and impacted heavily with the sword arm of his foe, causing the arm to weaken. Roaring with anger, the usually calm and collected Rupert struck out with rage at his opponent. Unfortunately for him, Jedjo parried the Double Strike and Shoulder Charged at Rupert again. This time, the charging swing was better aimed and caused a serious wound (1 Wound) to the Aggressive Squire. Rupert desperately Slashed at his opponent but Jedjo was again too quick, and parried the blow.

Turn 6 began (both Squires had the same amount of Hits) with Rupert pressing Jedjo back against the wooden fence with two quick Chops. The first Chop hit Jedjo in the stomach and winded him, but the second Chop was deflected by a somewhat lucky block from Jedjo's shield. Still recovering from the blow, Jedjo Armag delivered a Spin-Slash with all of the strength his now flagging endurance could offer. The blow hit with punishing force, but Rupert took the hit well and was only momentarily stunned.

As Turn 7 commenced (both Squires had the same amount of hits) both Squires were covered with sweat and looked exhausted from the ferocity of the fight. Nevertheless, they continued the battle bravely. Using a quick-witted Diversion attack that would have fooled many others, Rupert hoped to score a hit but again, his attack was parried by Jedjo's skilled defenses. Striking back, Jedjo used the last of his now emptied endurance reserves to deliver two last, desperate attacks upon his adversary in the form of a Chop and a Lunge. Luckily for the Adroit Squire, both hit and slipped past the guard of Rupert, neither attack caused any injuries, however. Draining the last of his own strength, Rupert struck back with his own last two attacks, a Spin-Slash followed by a Slash. Unfortunately for Rupert, only the Slash hit, and it failed to do any harm to the Adroit Jedjo.

Exhuasted, wounded and dazed, both Squires collapsed to the ground as soon as the call for the battle to end was given. The spectators applauded their endurance as they both slowly climbed to their feet to hear who had been declared the victor. Jedjo Armag had won by having 1 More Hit than his opponent, thus breaking Rupert, Squire to Baron Borsam's winning streak. Jedjo Armag receives 6 points, whilst Rupert, Squire to Baron Borsam receives 4 points (taking his total to 34, still a healthy sum indeed!).

The Adjudicator once more unrolled the scroll of parchment he carried and read aloud, "In this, the seventh battle of Round Four, Falstaf Doutreive Cunningmare XVII must do battle against Ryant de Cooke II. May the best man win!"

The battle began with Falstaf Doutreive Cunningmare XVII stepping forward and swinging a cutting Slash at Ryant de Cooke II. The blow slipped past Ryant's guard and impacted upon his chest, causing a serious wound! Surprised by the sudden hit that he had just suffered, a Jab from Ryant faltered and fell away harmlessly. Striking once more, Falstaf Slashed at his opponent and this time aimed low for his opponent's legs. The tactic worked as the blow slipped past Ryant's guard, hit him on the calf muscle of his right leg with disabling force and knocked him off of his feet! Ryant, surprised and dismayed, could not resist the force of the blow, nor could he stop himself from collapsing backwards and landing on his back, thus losing the battle.

The battle was over and who the victor was was clear. Falstaf Doutreive Cunningmare XVII had won by Knocking Over Ryant de Cooke II. Therefore, Falstaf Doutreive Cunningmare XVII receives 10 points, whilst Ryant de Cooke receives no points.

"Finally, in the last battle of Round Four, Seretuon shall do battle against Artois Atrove. Neither Squire charged into battle. They both knew the benefits of a good defense and they waited for their opponents to make the first move. It was Seretuon who attacked first, he lashed out with a Chop, but Artois's shield turned aside the blow harmlessly. Stepping backwards quickly, as if to flee, Artois tricked Seretuon into following him with an act of Subterfuge, before leaping forward and striking his opponent's leg with all of his might. The blow caused Seretuon's leg to weaken and slow, but Seretuon was unfazed and continued the fight anyway. Artois struck once more, this time with a Slash, but Seretuon avoided the attack and was unharmed. Feinting a chopping blow at his opponent, Seretuon attempted to fool his foe, but Artois ignored the deft move and was not affected.

Seretuon, stepping towards his opponent, grasped his blade with both hands and readied himself to hack out at his opposition with a cleaving Power Strike. Luckily for Artois Atrove, he was able to raise his weapon in a defensive pose, ready to Deflect the coming strike. It was good that Artois took the Deflection pose, as Seretuon's Power Strike hit with jarring force and nearly knocked Artois off of his feet, but Artois managed to, using both his sword and shield, block the incoming blow! Hacking back, Artois Slashed at his opponent, but Seretuon defended himself with a well-placed shield, blocking the Slash.

Keeping the pressure on Artois, Seretuon stabbed a lightning-quick Jab at his opponent. Artois was quicker still, however, and side-stepped the swift, but inaccurate strike. Artois Atrove attempted to trick Seretuon by taking a Deflection stance, only to strike out with a Chop moments later. Seretuon was not to be easily fooled though, and with a deft parry, turned the Chop aside before lashing back with a Power Strike. The blow's aim was not true, however, and the Power Strike only succeeded in cleaving a shallow hole into the sand.

Deciding that now was the time to attack with all his might, Artois Atrove swung a sweeping Power Strike directed at his opponent's torso, but Seretuon blocked it with his shield! In a clever move, Seretuon Feinted an attack from one direction and came Lunging from the other, delivering a slicing blow that hit with disabling force and wounded Artois badly.

The final Turn began with both Squires gripping their weapons in a double-handed fashion and readying to swing Power Strikes at each other. Artois's blade hit with crushing force, but as before was deflected by the shield of his skilled foe! Seretuon, who had aimed his blow better, hit Artois squarely in the mid-section and caused a palpable wound to the Defensive Squire, almost toppling him over, but not quite.

The battle, and the round itself, was now over. The Adjudicator called an end to the fighting and declared the victor of the match. It was Seretuon, who had won by having 1 More Hit than his opponent, because of this, Seretuon earns 6 points. Artois Atrove earns 4 points.

With a wave of his hand to silence the cheering crowd, the King's Herald stood up from his seat and cleared his throat, before speaking, "Squires of Bretonnia, approach!". Upon hearing the order, the now 16 strong group of Squires marched in an orderly unit into the arena, with the sound of trumpets and the cheers of the crowd to welcome them. They all looked proud, but somewhat nervous about who would next be eliminated.

When the Squires had reached the centre of the arena and halted, the Herald waved his hand once more to silence the cheering crowd, before speaking, "It is the end of another round of battles and I must say that the combats of this Tournament grow more intense. I see that you have all improved your fighting skills since the Tournament began a month ago, but the Trials shall only grow as time passes. Unfortunately, not all of you are ready to be Knighted, not all of you are ready to take up your spurs and your lance. Therefore, it is time for the
