Chaliot deFray VS Gerald de Brekenfess

A week had passed since the first round and today was the day in which Round Two would take place. Again, the weather was clear and few, if any, clouds sailed across the sky. The feelings of expectation and excitement were even greater this day than in the previous round. The pavilions, both upper and lower levels, were packed with joyous common-folk and nobles.

Inside the preparation building, the 20 Squires sat, conversing in hushed tones. They all had a look of nervousness about them, but also a look of determination. They were ready to give it their all.

When the hour reached eleven in the morning, the King's Herald again entered the Royal Alcove. This time a hooded Scribe entered with him, carrying a small tray upon which rested an ink well, quill and a some bare pieces of parchment. With a few words whispered between them, the Herald and the Scribe sat down on cushioned seats, and the Scribe set to work writing onto the parchment.

With a nod from the Herald, a blast from trumpets and cheers from the onlookers signalling the beginning of Round Two. The King's Adjudicator unrolled a scroll of parchment which he carried with him, and began to read...

"Now, in the first match of Round Two, Jean de Montbergac shall do battle against Evrard de Laurier!" The crowd's excited applause filled the air as the two chosen Squires entered the arena...

Allowing his opponent to act first, Jean de Montbergac readied himself to Deflect Evrard's attacks as the battle started. The effort was not wasted, as a Double Strike from Evrard was easily turned aside. However, Jean was not prepared for a Jab that quickly followed his opponent's Double Strike. The Jab hit, but it did not carry enough power to wound Jean. Ignoring Evrard's attacks, Jean raised his sword and sliced out with a double-handed Power Strike which was accurate, pushed aside all defenses Evrard could put up and hit with a loud crunch into the leg of Evrard de Laurier. No bones were broken, but the Power Strike hit with such force that Evrard was knocked off of his feet and was sprawled on his back upon the sandy arena floor.

As the spectators applauded this early victory and Jean de Montbergac waved back to them, the Adjudicator declared Jean the winner. Jean won by Knocking Over his opponent. Because of this, Jean gains 10 points. Evrard gains none.

The scribe was writing the results of the last match onto a piece of parchment as the Herald whispered quietly to him. Once Evrard de Laurier had been helped from the arena by the Marshalls, the Adjudicator unrolled the scroll of parchment he carried and real aloud once again, "Next, Curtis Pythonheart shall be pitted against Ryanus Caeruleus Coquus. May the Lady bless them both!"

The doors to the preparation building swung open once more and Curtis and Ryanus marched onto the centre of the arena, drew their swords, and awaited the signal to begin...

When the signal was given, it was Ryanus who was the first to strike. His nimble Slash would have hit but Curtis's shield was raised and turned the blow away. Replying with a Chop and a Spin-Slash, Curtis was unable to hit his opponent, but did force Ryanus to react by attempting to Deflect any incoming strikes. Both Curtis and Ryanus showed a lot of heart, but not much accuracy as Curtis lashed out with two Spin-Slashes, and Ryanus struck out with a Chop and a Slash. None of their attacks hit.

The crowd enjoyed the hack-and-slash action of the match and were shouting encouragement to their favourite Squires as Ryanus evaded a Spin-Slash swung by Curtis. Lashing back, Ryanus used a Double Strike attack, but Curtis had seen it coming and dodged. Attacking once more, Ryanus Spin-Slashed at Curtis, hit and punched through the meagre defenses Curtis had put up. The hit caused a graze to Curtis's leg, but no further damage. Angered, Curtis Chopped at his opponent but missed, and then Shoulder Charged to bring Ryanus down but this attack failed as well. Ryanus readied himself to Deflect any strikes Curtis would try but abandoned that plan when he saw an opportunity to attack and used it. Unfortunately, the Spin-Slash that Ryanus performed, missed.

The heated battle continued as Curtis dodged a Slash from Ryanus before attacking back with a Chop and a Jab. Both attacks missed their target, however. Ryanus Chopped out at his opponent but was parried before planting his feet into the sand and taking a Deflection stance. This proved to be a good idea, as a Chop from Curtis was easily blocked and, as Ryanus continued to Deflect, a second Chop was parried as well.

Pushing Curtis's blade aside after parrying a Chop swung by the Reckless Squire, Ryanus Lunged at his opponent but his attack was slightly off target and missed. Ryanus managed to turn aside at the last moment as a Spin-Slash counter attack from Curtis missed him by a very short margin. Startled by this, Ryanus prepared to Deflect Curtis's next attack but the effort was wasted, as Curtis attempted another Spin-Slash but again missed. Ryanus then Slashed at his opponent but his strike was blocked by Curtis Pythonheart's shield. Curtis then tried to finish the battle with a Shoulder Charge however, his charge missed. Ryanus Spin-Slashed, but this attack missed as well.

With a Lunge, Ryanus tried to bring Curtis down with a powerful swing of his blade. Curtis dodged aside and was not hit. Curtis, finally managing to hit his opponent, did so with much gusto. A Chop that slipped past Ryanus's guard hammered into his chest with disabling force, causing the squire to shudder from the impact of the blow. Ryanus staggered backwards and retaliated with a feeble Chop that missed. Curtis struck again with another Chop, this time Ryanus managed to stop the attack with his shield, however. Curtis tried once more to bring Ryanus down, this time with a Spin-Slash, but his swing missed. Ryanus raised his sword to Deflect any attacks Curtis might try but, despite the effort, a Jab from Curtis punched through his defenses and caused a visable wound to Ryanus. Ryanus hacked out with a Slash, slipped past Curtis's guard but failed to do any physical harm.

In the 6th and final Turn (Both Squires had the same amount of Hits), Curtis charged forwards and barreled into Ryanus with a Shoulder Charge, but failed to knock his opponent over! Ryanus struck back with a Double Strike, which hit Curtis but failed to wound. Ryanus then took up a Deflection style stance but thought the better of it and decided to strike two more attacks at his opponent instead. With a Lunge Ryanus broke through Curtis's defenses and hit him, striking with enough force to wind Curtis. A final Chop from Ryanus was evaded.

The Adjudicator called an end to the match and both Squires fell to their knees in exhaustion (they had performed over 40 attacks between them!). Ryanus Caeruleus Coquus had won by having 1 More Hit than his opponent. Ryanus earns 6 points. Curtis Pythonheart earns 4 points.

As the two Squires left the arena the crowd was filled with the sounds of laughing and conversing. The onlookers happily boasted and taunted on who they thought was going to win the next contest. Cutting through the morass of voices and laughter, the King's Adjudicator read aloud from the parchment, "Aodhan of Greensleeves and Gaston le Bear shall face each other in this, the third battle of Round Two. May the best man win!" With that, the doors to the preparation building swung open once more...

The crowd roared in excitement as the battle commenced, Gaston closed the distance between them and had the first attack. The Chop that he attempted missed his target by mere inches. Aodhan stabbed out with a Jab, but Gaston was able to avoid the strike. Gaston hacked out with two quick Chops at Aodhan, the first Chop missed but the second Chop hit, pushed through Aodhan's guard but failed to cause any wounds.

Gaston kept the rain of attacks coming with another Chop, which was not parried and hit with enough force on his leg to weaken the limb for the rest of the battle. Aodhan then turned to flee, or so it seemed, and Gaston gave chase, but at the last second Aodhan span around and struck out. The act of Subterfuge hit, was not blocked but did not hit with enough force to wound. Not at all fazed, Gaston Lunged twice, however both attacks missed.

With the crowd shouting and cheering the Squires battled on, the Herald watching and the scribe writing away on his pieces of parchment. Gaston, regaining his balance after Lunging, Chopped out at his opponent but Aodhan was too quick and side-stepped the clumsy blow. Aodhan braced himself to Deflect Gaston's next attack and did so, with the Chop that Gaston swung being stopped and thrown aside. Aodhan lashed out with a Slash after knocking his opponent's weapon aside and hit Gaston's arm with enough power to weaken the limb. Gaston, grunting irritably from the blow to his arm, Lunged forward at his opponent, broke through the defenses Aodhan had put up and caused a palpable hit which wounded him badly.

Gaston, once again Chopping at his foe, hit Aodhan but failed to put enough force behind the blow to do any damage. Aodhan raised his shield and sword, ready to Deflect Gaston's next attacks. The plan worked again, as Gaston Chopped once more, was parried, had his weapon pushed to the side and, when he was defenseless, was Jabbed by Aodhan. The attack hit but did not carry enough force to wound. Gaston attempted to bring his opponent down then and there with a Shoulder Charge but Aodhan avoided the charging swipe.

Chopping once more, Gaston's blade impacted heavily with Aodhan and pushed the stricken Squire backwards, wounding him badly once more. Aodhan retreated towards the fence and, trying to fend off his attacker, Jabbed out at Gaston but his attack was stopped by Gaston's shield. Gaston, making sure Aodhan did not escape, Lunged at his opponent, however the attack was off and missed. Gaston, this time hitting, Shoulder Charged into his opponent and forced him backwards, crashing into the fence, but did not wound him.

With a shout, the Adjudicator ended the battle. Gaston was declared the victor. Gaston had won by having 3 More Hits than his opponent. Gaston receives 7 points, Aodhan receives 3 points.

Once Gaston le Bear and Aodhan of Greensleeves had returned to the preparation building, the King's Adjudicator read aloud from the scroll once more "In this, the fourth battle of Round Two, Falstaf Doutreive Cunningmare XVII will compete with Rupert, Squire to Baron Borsam!"

Falstaf and Rupert marched onto the centre of the arena and drew their swords. When the signal for the battle to begin was given, Rupert was the one to act first. With a deft Diversion, Rupert hit his opponent hard on the arm, causing Falstaf's sword arm to become weakened for the rest of the battle. Falstaf, not one to be easily defeated, still Slashed at his opponent, despite the arm wound he had suffered. His attack was true, but was parried before it could reach its target. Rupert struck back with a Chop but missed, and Falstaf Slashed once more, but his attack also missed. A Spin-Slash from Rupert was on target but Falstaf was ready this time, and blocked the attack with his shield.

The crowd burst into cheering as Rupert swung once more with a Chop, and although Falstaf raised his sword to parry it, the Chop slipped past and hit! Rupert's strike had a lot of force behind it and caused a palpable wound on Falstaf. Falstaf Slashed out as he staggered back from the force of Rupert's Chop, and surprisingly, Falstaf's Slash hit with enough force to wound Rupert badly! The Aggressive Rupert was not going to let that attack go unanswered, however, and lashed out with a Spin-Slash, hit and impacted heavily on the chest of Falstaf and caused another powerful wound! Falstaf showed a lot of endurance when, even after suffering two wounding hits, Slashed out and hit his opponent! No harm was caused, however. Falstaf then dodged to the side as Rupert hacked out with a Spin-Slash, but missed.

Evading a second Spin-Slash from Rupert, Falstaf Slashed at his opponent and hit him in the mid-section with enough power to wind Rupert. Taking advantage of Rupert's momentary stun, Falstaf Slashed again, hit but failed to cause any more harm. Recovering his breath, Rupert Chopped at Falstaf but was easily blocked.

Small clouds of sand were kicked into the air as the melee continued, Rupert Slashing at his opponent but failing to hit before retreating out of range of a sliding Jab from Falstaf which missed. Rupert leapt forward once more into the centre of the arena and struck out with a Double Strike, which hit Falstaf but did no damage to him. Falstaf replied to the Double Strike with a skillful Slash which got past the defenses of Rupert and hit, but did not harm him. Falstaf then backed away and avoided a Spin-Slash from Rupert.

As Turn 5 commenced, Falstaf's Jab was easily evaded and replied to with a mighty Chop from Rupert. Unfortunately for Rupert, the Chop only found the sandy floor of the arena as it missed. Another Jab from Falstaf was also inaccurate, but this time only by a small margin. The battle came to a final end as Rupert struck twice at his foe, first came a Chop which hit but failed to harm Falstaf. Second came a powerful Double Strike which hammered into the body of Falstaf and caused a final wound on the Squire. Falstaf fell backwards, unconsious.

With cheers from the crowd filling the air, Rupert, Squire to Baron Borsam had won by Knocking Out his opponent. Rupert, Squire to Baron Borsam receives 10 points. Falstaf Doutreive Cunningmare XVII receives no points.

A blast of trumpets silenced the noisy crowd, allowing the Adjudicator to read aloud once more, "Next, Seretuon shall do battle with Ryant de Cooke II!" The doors opened once again, and the two Squires marched onto the arena floor...

The first attack of the battle was Seretuon's, a lightning-quick Slash which was barely avoided by Ryant. He responded with a well-aimed Jab, which punched through Seretuon's defenses and hit! Seretuon Chopped out at his foe, but Ryant parried the blow before it had a chance to hit. Seretuon then dodged under a clumsy Power Strike.

Still unable to land a hit on Ryant de Cooke II, Seretuon Slashed out at his opponent but was blocked by a well-placed shield. Ryant, trying to bring Seretuon down, Lunged at his opponent but his sword swing was evaded by a nimble Seretuon. Both Seretuon and Ryant Jabbed at their opponents at the same time, but neither attack found its mark.

Seretuon lashed forwards with a powerful Jab attack directed at the body of his opponent, but Ryant hopped backwards out of range of the stab. Ryant then attacked with another Jab of his own, hit, broke through the guard of Seretuon and the hammering blow wounded Seretuon! Seretuon kept his wits about him still however, and Slashed out at Ryant and hit, but the Jab from Ryant had winded him enough to insure that the Slash did no damage. Ryant swung a mighty Power Strike, but missed.

With the Herald talking quietly to the busy scribe as he watched the fight unfold, Seretuon began to fight back against the lead in Hits that Ryant had achieved. With a Slash, he avoided Ryant's defenses and hit him! The attack did no damage, but a hit was still caused. Ryant was not giving up however and cut out with a Spin-Slash but found his attack parried by Seretuon! Ryant evaded a second Slash from Seretuon and Jabbed at his opponent, but missed.

The crowd was alive with excitement as the sound of steel on steel rang out across the arena. Seretuon found a skilled Slash stopped by an equally skilled parry. Both Ryant's Spin-Slash and Jab were accurate but both were blocked by the stalwart defenses of his opponent. Seretuon Slashed once more but again, his attack was parried.

Turn 6 began (Both Squires had the same amount of Hits) with Seretuon stabbing at his opponent with a Jab. Ryant stopped the attack with a parry, pushed the weapon aside and smashed into Seretuon with a Shoulder Charge. Amazingly, the Shoulder Charge did not hurt Seretuon, just pushed him backwards slightly. Seretuon swung out with a desperate last Slash, but his attack was parried!

The Adjudicator called an end to the match. Ryant de Cooke II had won by having 1 More Hit than his opponent. Ryant de Cooke II gains 6 points. Seretuon gains 4 points.

It was once again time for lunchtime festivities and the blast of trumpets signalled their beginning. The pavilions emptied to watch the various dancers, fire-eaters and other entertainers who performed for the enjoyment of the crowd. As before, bread and mead was handed out to all of those who were present, and the sounds of singing and laughter filled the air.

In the hour after noon, the spectators returned to their seats to watch the continuation of Round Two. The King's Adjudicator cleared his throat and spoke, "Next, Gillrod de Moss shall do battle with Meaven of Greensleeves! May he who carries to favour of the Lady be victorious!"

The battle began with Meaven running at his opponent and Chopping, but was parried by his Adroit foe. Gillrod then pushed Meaven's sword away and struck out with a Slash, but was blocked by his opponent's shield. Gillrod pretended to strike again, and tricked Meaven with a Feint. Meaven, grasping his weapon in both hands, swung a thunderous Power Strike at Gillrod and hit. Luckily for Gillrod, it was merely a grazing hit to his leg.

Attempting to force Gillrod off balance, Meaven of Greensleeves charged at Gillrod and tried to lock blades in a Clash of Steel. Gillrod avoided the attempt. Gillrod then struck out with a Jab, hitting the unprepared Meaven with enough force to cause him to flinch from the wound. Recovering from the pain of the injury, Meaven lashed out with a mighty Power Strike that again hit Gillrod, but this time the hit was on an awkward angle and caused no damage to the Squire.

Meaven continued to pummel attacks at Gillrod, swinging a Spin-Slash that was easily evaded by the Adroit Gillrod. Gillrod then struck a Deflection style pose and dodged under another whirling Spin-Slash from Meaven and then parried a further Chop from the Aggressive Squire. Gillrod then tossed the blade of his opponent aside and Jabbed out hitting with enough force to cause Meaven to double over and fall unconsious to the sandy arena floor!

Meaven of Greensleeves was dragged from the arena and Gillrod de Moss was declared the victor by Knocking Out his opponent. Gillrod earns 10 points, Meaven earns none.

Many of the onlookers gasped with shock as Pierre Chopped at his opponent with lightning speed, but Artois still managed to raise his sword high enough to stop the incoming blow. Artois, backing away, Slashed at his opponent but the attack was badly aimed, and missed. Now ready for the next attack, Artois easily turned aside Pierre's second Chop with a flick of his wrist. Grasping his weapon is both hands, he swung back with a Power Strike, the attack was true and hit with great force, but Pierre took it well and was not hurt.

Pierre, unfazed by the Power Strike that he just received, attacked back with a Double Strike, slipped past the palpable defenses of his opponent and hit. His attack did not carry enough force to wound, however. Artois attempted to deceive Pierre de Gisoreux with a Feint, but Pierre ignored it and stabbed at his opponent with a Jab that only missed its target by a mere fraction of an inch. Artois then tried to fool his opponent with another trick, this time he pretended to flee in an act of Subterfuge, but Pierre did not fall for it and the ensuing surprise attack missed.

The scribe continued writing onto parchment (he was on his fourth page now) as the 3rd Turn began. A clumsy Slash from Pierre was evaded by Artois, who Chopped back at his opponent and hit with enough force to cause a visable wound to Pierre! Pierre was badly stunned by the Chop and his reply Jab missed. Attacking once more, Artois swung a Power Strike which hammered into Pierre's sword arm and weakened the limb for the rest of the battle.

Falling back from the withering blows that Artois was unleashing upon him, Pierre tried to defend himself with a Slash, but his attack was parried. Artois, still holding his sword in both hands, swung another Power Strike and hit again, but this time the force of the blow was not enough to wound Pierre. Unable to withstand the powerful strikes that were hitting him, Pierre tried to Chop but failed.

Regaining his composure, Pierre attempted to fend his opponent away with a nimble Jab, but Artois Atrove was too quick and the attack was evaded. Swinging another double-handed Power Strike, Artois was breathing heavily from the effort of swinging his weapon so powerfully so many times. The Power Strike still hit, but Artois was unable to put enough force behind it and failed to cause any real harm. Pierre, knowing that he had been defeated, attempted one last Chop, which hit and slipped past his opponent's defenses. but failed to wound.

The battle ended with a shout from the Adjudicator and both Squires came to a halt. It was declared that Artois Atrove had won by having 3 More Hits than his opponent. Artois Atrove receives 7 points whilst Pierre de Gisoreux receives 3 points.

Once again the King's Adjudicator unrolled the parchment scroll he held and read aloud, "Bobby Thundar and Jedjo Armag. Approach, and do battle!" When the signal to begin was given, neither Squire rushed into the fight, instead they circled each other with their eyes locked on each other, trying to find a weakness in the other's defenses. Bobby struck first, running at his opponent and delivering a harsh Chop, but Jedjo was too quick and side-stepped the attack. Stabbing back at his opponent, Jedjo Jabbed quickly at Bobby Thundar but, unfortunately for Jedjo, the attack missed. Bobby then replied with a Jab of his own, but his blade was parried by his opponent and then pushed to the side. Throwing his opponent off balance with his deft parry, Jedjo hammered his opponent with a Chop, which hit but failed to harm Bobby. Regaining his balance, Bobby Shoulder Charged however Jedjo had seen it coming and at the last second evaded his attack.

An inaccurate Spin-Slash attack from Bobby missed his opponent and instead hit into the sandy ground of the arena with a dull thud, spraying a tiny cloud of sand into the air as it did so. Jedjo then charged at his opponent and Jabbed out at him, but the attack was badly aimed and missed. Seeing an opportunity, Bobby hefted his weapon above his head and brought it down in an arcing Chop, which hit but failed to hurt Jedjo, and then a Lunging attack followed which also hit, but failed to do any damage to his opponent.

The thunderous sound of clashing steel rang out as a Chop from Bobby was barely parried by Jedjo's blade. A Spin-Slashing return attack was avoided by Bobby Thundar and he also blocked a further Chop from Jedjo Armag. Unfortunately for Bobby Thundar, his own attacks were just as ineffective and both a Chop and a Slash missed.

Much to the crowd's excitement, again the blades of Bobby and Jedjo met as a Chop swung by Bobby glanced off the edge of Jedjo's sword and was parried. Jedjo struck back with two Chops, the first of which was blocked by Bobby's shield, the second of which got past Bobby's guard and caused a powerful wound to the Aggressive Squire. Bobby was not finished yet though, and he lashed back with a Slash that deftly avoided Jedjo's guard and hit. A further Shoulder Charge from Bobby was not as successful however, and Jedjo dodged it.

As the final turn of the battle commenced, Jedjo Armag dodged under an inaccurate Chop from Bobby and slammed into his opponent with a Shoulder Charge. Bobby Thundar took the blow well and was unharmed by the assault, however, and struck back with a Spin-Slash and a Slash. The Spin-Slash missed its target by a wide margin but the Slash's aim was true and the blow hit with crushing force into the body of Jedjo and made him struggle to stay upright.

The end of the match came as a call of "Halt!" from the Adjudicator stopped both Squires immediately. Bobby Thundar had won by having 2 More Hits than Jedjo Armag. Bobby gains 6 points, Jedjo gains 4 points.

The day's events were coming to a close, only two battles were left to be completed but the crowd was still alive with people laughing, talking and joking as the Adjudicator read once again from the scroll which he held, "Ulric Von Licktenstein shall do battle against Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam. As soon as the signal was given to begin the match, Ulric barreled forwards at Thomas, trying to bring him down with a Shoulder Charging strike, but Thomas was too quick and escaped from the blow. Thomas struck back with a Power Strike, but the attack was too hurriedly aimed and the powerful blow was wasted as it slammed into the sand.

Cutting through the air with a Chop, Ulric only missed his opponent by inches as he quickly closed the distance between himself and his opponent. Ignoring a Feinted attack from Thomas, Ulric Jabbed at his opponent but Thomas had anticipated it and dodged it easily. Striking back with a Power Strike, Thomas hit this time, easily broke through the defenses that Ulric put up and hit with enough force to wound Ulric badly! Ulric did not yeild to his opponent though and struck back with a Jab and a Chop. The former missed, the latter was parried.

Thomas stepped back a pace and locked eyes with his opponent, each Squire's face showed the determination which they both had for victory. The pause in which they stayed, eyes locked on each other was short however, and the battle was re-joined once more.

Ulric was the first to attack with a Jab, but the attack was easily evaded by his opponent. Backing away, Thomas Chopped at his opponent and hit, but failed to do any harm. Ulric, starting to become angered from his inability to hit his opponent, Shoulder Charged at his foe but missed. Thomas took advantage of the vulnerablility of his opponent as he charged past and hammered him once more with a Chop. Once again, the attack did no damage.

Ulric, becoming more and more irked, Lunged at his opponent, but to his dismay, missed. Thomas then pretended to turn and flee from his opponent and Ulric gave chase. With a quick spinning Subterfuge attack that Ulric did not expect, Thomas hit but failed to hurt his opponent. Thomas attacked again with a further Chop, which also hit Ulric but failed to wound once more. Ulric, knowing that he was losing the battle, struck out three times at his opponent. Two Chops failed to do any harm as one missed and the other was blocked, but a final Jab managed to hit Thomas with enough force to wound!

Thomas, now confident that he could win if he avoided Ulric's incoming attacks, Chopped at his opponent in an attempt to fend him away, but the attack missed. Swinging a Chop of his own, Ulric's blade found its mark and hit Thomas! Luckily for the Squire to Baron Borsam, the attack failed to wound. As his final attack for the battle, Thomas stepped forward and lashed out one last time at his opponent with an overhead Power Strike, which grazed his opponent and pushed him backwards, but did not harm Ulric. Ulric's two final attacks, a Chop and a Shoulder Charge, failed as Thomas evaded and dodged both.

It was the end of the battle. Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam had won by having 4 More Hits than his opponent, Ulric Von Licktenstein. Thomas gains 7 points whilst Ulric gains 3 points.

Chaliot then barreled forward in a Shoulder Charge, aiming to knock Gerald from his feet in one hit, but Gerald avoided the charging assault successfully.

Then, as abruptly as it began, the battle ended. Chaliot stabbed out with a Double Strike, hit Gerald across the legs with disabling force and sent Gerald toppling backwards and sprawled him upon the sandy floor.

The Adjudicator called an end to the match, Chaliot deFray had won by Knocking Over his opponent. Chaliot deFray earns 10 points. Gerald earns no points.

With the crowd's applause filling the air, the Herald rose from his seat and called, "Squires of Bretonnia, approach!" Once more the doors to the preparation room swung open and the 20 Squires marched onto the centre of the arena. Shouts of encouragement and cheers greeted them and all of the Squires looked somewhat proud.

A long and loud burst from the trumpets silenced the crowd and allowed the Herald to speak, "The level of skill and courage that is within you shows us that indeed, the protection of Bretonnia's future is in good hands. However, now comes the time for elimination, those of you who are not yet ready to be Knights shall start to be removed from the competition. Now, it is time for the
